Jason Pierre-Paul still isn’t recovered from his fireworks accident from over the summer

The Packers probably took the biggest injury hit around the league this summer when they lost Jordy Nelson for the season with an ACL injury. But the man who’s expected to replace the majority of Nelson’s production, Randall Cobb, is battling health problems as well.

Cobb injured his shoulder during the Packers’ second preseason game, and just returned to practice Wednesday. There’s no definitive word on whether Cobb will suit up to take on the Bears in Week 1, but the fact that he’s practicing is a good sign.

If Cobb can’t go Sunday, second-year wideout Davante Adams would become the new number one receiver in his absence.

Jason Pierre-Paul (DE, Giants):

Jason Pierre-Paul still isn’t recovered from his fireworks accident from over the summer, which cost him a finger and will likely cost him his first few game checks this season as well.

“You know you’re going against the best and it’s a big opportunity because you want to be at your best and try to make a play against him,” cornerback A.J. Bouye said. “And at the end of the day it all comes down to winning and changing the game on defense and getting the ball in our offense’s hands.”

O’Brien knows how Brady prepares for games, and he is aware the four-time Super Bowl champion will have a good idea of what the Texans will present defensively.

“We’re not going to show him anything that he hasn’t already seen,” O’Brien said. “He’s been doing it for years, 17 years or whatever it is. I mean, that’s part of what makes him who he is. He’s seen it all. He’s very well-prepared. He’s played against a lot of these players. He’s played against this scheme.

DeMarcus Ware expected to be out 2 weeks with back injury

Kids Chris Doleman Jersey
Denver Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware left Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders with a back injury. He’s expected to miss two weeks with what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is calling a back strain.

Limited Mens Ronnie Lott Jersey The Broncos will play the Cleveland Browns in Week 6, but have a bye the following week, meaning Ware is likely to only miss one game. Rookie Shane Ray is listed as Ware’s primary backup on the depth chart.

He did.

That is Bradshaw in 2010, after Roethlisberger’s second sexual violence incident — a rape accusation in Georgia for which the quarterback received a six-game suspension that was later reduced to four games. Bradshaw addressed the following to Roethlisberger at the time:

“I’ve told everyone I wasn’t happy when the commissioner reduced your suspension from six games to four games. I wouldn’t have done that. I don’t know that you’ve proven to the NFL that you’re on the right path, but I hope so.

So to answer a lot of questions: When Roethlisberger was accused of sexual violence, Terry Bradshaw stood loudly on the same side he now occupies regarding Hardy: The right one. You can put aside this accusation of a double standard for one of the few people around the NFL using his pulpit to send a message the league needs to hear. The takeaway here should be how bleak it is that, years later, Bradshaw still has to upbraid organizations for keeping men like this around.

Tate wasn¡¯t seeing the ball much early, and his numbers showed it

¡°I feel like every time I think I have it, I come back and make a stupid mistake,¡± Tate said. ¡°A simple, silly, knucklehead mistake. That seems to happen all the time. It¡¯s like, ¡®I got it. I got it. I think I got it.¡¯ And I guess I become slightly complacent and then, ‘Boom.'”
Game Josh Robinson Jersey
The ¡°Boom¡± happens less frequently now and often in places most don¡¯t see — like in practice, when he¡¯s still running hard. If he makes the mistake there, then he¡¯s hoping to fix it by game time.

This season was even more of an adaptation. Tate wasn¡¯t seeing the ball much early, and his numbers showed it. That led to the well-known benching in Week 4 against Chicago. From there, he emerged as Matthew Stafford’s favored target. Tate stopped focusing on his numbers and his targets and, in turn, ended up producing more on the field.

That was an adaptation by Tate to just refocus himself. And the Lions’ offensive staff worked to feature him more.

When the Bills didn’t play quarterback Tyrod Taylor in their regular-season finale on Sunday against the New York Jets, it sent the message that the team does not intend to pick up the $15.5 million option bonus in his contract that they have until March 11 to decline or exercise.

Picking up the option would guarantee Taylor $30.75 million over the life of the contract, tying him to Buffalo for the next five seasons, and the Bills don’t have any intention of paying it.

Taylor’s core muscle surgery was performed this week with the Bills being aware of, and involved in the process to have it done, per league sources. This was not a surprise to the Bills. Taylor was diagnosed with a core muscle issue late in the season and played with it until Week 17. Bills doctors told Taylor that surgery was possible and they even recommended that he visit Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. Dr. Meyers determined there was no medical alternative; surgery was the only option. Taylor’s recovery is expected to be six to eight weeks, possibly longer.

Sharks place Marc-Edouard Vlasic on Injured Reserve

Game Derrick Shelby Jersey
Game Devan Dubnyk Jersey The Sharks put Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the Injured Reserve list today and recalled Mirco Mueller from the San Jose Barracuda, ruling out the veteran defender from play the rest of the week according to Acquaintance of the Blog Curtis Pashelka.

With Mueller being recalled, Vlasic placed on IR. Out for tomorrow’s game, and Thursday’s vs. Minnesota I believe.

The Lakers scored 31 points in the fourth quarter themselves, so Toronto needed that Lowry performance and ended up scoring 38 to push the lead out into a respectable margin. Los Angeles had their own red-hot shooters, but Lowry was too much. While the Raptors¡¯ losses have come in pairs a few times, Toronto hasn¡¯t lost three in a row all season. Lowry made sure that continued.

That¡¯s what a floor general and team leader does, after all. DeMar DeRozan scored 31 points on Sunday, and he¡¯s clearly one of the team¡¯s two best players and crucial to their success. But Lowry is both those things while becoming the team¡¯s emotional spirit. They ride or die with their 6-foot, 30-year-old point guard, who is just good at being good.

The Raptors¡¯ 23-10 record this season feels disingenuous. The eight-point loss to the Suns last Thursday is a strange one, but most of the team¡¯s defeats come with an explanation. They also lost competitive games to the Warriors twice already this year, twice to Cleveland by four points each, and once to the Clippers by an eight-point margin.

Selig was elected to the Hall of Fame earlier this month, sparking some writers to say that if Selig is a Hall of Famer

Going on to lose the game is hardly heinous, knowing that a road date in Oklahoma City is no gimme, but Friday’s home loss to Sacramento still stings, given that the Wolves wasted Zach LaVine’s first 40-point game. If only it helped in the standings when we hear that the Wolves are the first team in NBA history to feature three players under the age of 22 (LaVine, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins) to each post a 40-point game in one season.

After an absence of 14 games, Dirk Nowitzki is back at last for the Mavericks, who are also reveling in some strong recent contributions from Deron Williams and the first game-winning bucket of Harrison Barnes’ career. Dallas is by no means whole, with Andrew Bogut still sidelined and J.J. Barea not quite back yet, but some within the Big D sports populace — when they’re not wrapped up in what’s happening with the Cowboys — are starting to worry that the Mavs are poised to start winning more regularly and thus endanger local dreams of a high lottery pick.

The Mitchell report glossed over the sport’s institutional failures and didn’t touch on the specific decisions made by those in power. Mitchell picked out those 86 players, rather than acknowledging that over a period of more than two decades, it was likely that thousands and thousands of players in the majors and minors used performance-enhancing drugs.

Selig was elected to the Hall of Fame earlier this month, sparking some writers to say that if Selig is a Hall of Famer — Bud Selig, the commissioner of the sport during the steroid era — well, then just let in all the cheats, because Selig enabled the problem. Selig was a big part of the problem. Selig was a source of the problem.

This line of thinking is as unfair and ridiculous as the Mitchell report: Context means everything. Context matters.

The Saints brought in Brees and Payton before the 2006 campaign

That wouldn’t matter much if Payton stays, considering he has final say over all of the Saints’ personnel decisions anyway. Jeff Ireland, the former Dolphins general manager who’s now the assistant GM in New Orleans, would possibly take over the full-time GM duties if Payton remains as head coach. Payton and Ireland have worked with each other in the past.

But if Payton leaves, Loomis would likely be in charge of the coaching search. A top candidate to replace Payton is Doug Marrone, who’s a former assistant coach with the Saints and currently the offensive line coach in Jacksonville. Marrone opted out of his contract with the Buffalo Bills last year after just one season as the head coach.
Game Kids Gordon Beckham Jersey
The Saints brought in Brees and Payton before the 2006 campaign and they led the club to a 10-6 record and its first division title in six years. Three years later, the Saints captured their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

The Eagles are coming off a primetime whooping from the Arizona Cardinals that can best be described as “Philadelphia and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” The Eagles maintained a close race in the first half, but the Cardinals ran away in the second, finishing 40-17 in Philly.

Quarterback Sam Bradford had his best game with the Eagles on Sunday, despite the loss, putting up a season-high 361 yards for two touchdowns. Bradford found a good rhythm with tight end Zach Ertz, who had eight catches for 78 yards and touchdown, Though Ertz had two drops, he was able to get some points on the board for the team.

Game Kids Jonathan Babineaux Jersey This is the second time these teams will meet this season, the first being in early October when Washington won, 23-20, on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Cousins to Pierre Garcon with 26 seconds left in the game. The win helped put Washington one game ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East standings.

Is Bautista a better player than Hunter Renfroe?

Kids Edwin Encarnacion Jersey
Edwin Encarnacion is the one star hitter left, and he averaged 39 home runs and slugged .544 the past five seasons. Only Chris Davis has more home runs in that span, and only four others have a higher slugging percentage. He has hit nearly as well on the road as at home. Still, he¡¯ll be 34 next year, and his 2016 season, relative to the league, wasn¡¯t quite as dominant as his previous four.

Elite Mens Gabriel Landeskog Jersey The concerns about Encarnacion, however, pale next to the others. Mark Trumbo led the majors with 47 home runs. Fifteen years ago, or maybe even 10 years ago, he would have signed a fat deal by now and been heralded as some team¡¯s new cleanup hitter.

This is important. While the average salary continues to rise, the median salary on Opening Day payrolls dropped from $1.65 million in 2015 to $1.5 million in 2016. That means teams are keeping younger, less expensive players over older, higher-paid veterans to fill rosters. This appears to be a direct result of what I¡¯ll generously call ¡°rebuilding¡± teams.

Take the San Diego Padres. Is Bautista a better player than Hunter Renfroe? Probably. But what¡¯s the point? You can pay Renfroe the minimum and find out if he¡¯s any good. Why pay Bautista so much more than Renfroe to win a couple extra games? The Chicago White Sox could use a DH. But the team isn¡¯t aiming for the playoffs, so why sign Napoli to a two-year deal for $30 million or so to win maybe 73 games instead of 71?

The net effect is twofold: It puts more money in owners¡¯ pockets (shocker!), but it also means the 30 best first basemen in baseball aren¡¯t necessarily the 30 starting first basemen.

That¡¯s one reason I think the bidding was quiet for Justin Turner. The Dodgers kind of reluctantly took him back. Not because they don¡¯t need him in 2017 and 2018, but because it might block third base for a potential run at Machado or Donaldson.

Senior Bowl 2016 live stream: How to watch NFL draft prospects online

The 2016 Senior Bowl will host some of the nation’s best draft-eligible college football players, coached by the entire staffs of the Dallas Cowboys (North) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (South). Representatives from all 32 NFL teams will be in attendance to study the players who could end up on their draft boards in April.

Each coach and team also brings their training, video and equipment staffs to give players a comprehensive experience ahead of their NFL journey. The Senior Bowl has been played since 1950, with over 500 NFL players having first competed in this contest.

The teams are split mostly by conference, with all players from the SEC and most from the Big 12 on the South team, and most Big Ten and Pac-12 players on Team North. The rest of the conferences are split between the two teams, with each roster holding 55 players — Ohio State leads the North and Alabama leads the South, with both schools represented by five players.

Quarterbacks are a big draw in this year’s NFL Draft, and several are looking for their chance to impress scouts at Saturday’s game. For the North, Carson Wentz (North Dakota State), Cody Kessler (USC), Kevin Hogan (Stanford) and Jeff Driskel (Louisiana Tech) will take the snaps, and Dak Prescott (Mississippi State), Jake Coker (Alabama), Jacoby Brissett (NC State) and Brandon Allen (Arkansas) will line up under center for the South.

There is a lot of potential first-round talent in this year’s Senior Bowl, but people with big upsides could end up falling short by the end of the weekend. In addition to their on-field performance, scouts and team executives had the chance to interview players and get a better feel of who could be a good fit for their organization.

Charles Woodson’s days as an Oakland Raider might be finished, but he still has one more game left to play in an NFL uniform. The retiring 39-year-old defensive back is likely to become the 12th Hall of Famer in the Super Bowl Era to have the Pro Bowl be the final game of his career. In a surprising twist, Woodson was the final pick of the draft by Team Rice, giving new meaning to the term “Mr. Irrelevant.”

There might not be a more enticing potential mano a mano battle than the one between Team Irvin’s Richard Sherman and Team Rice’s Odell Beckham Jr. Sherman received the third-highest grade among cornerbacks at Pro Football Focus, and is the best cover guy in the Pro Bowl. Hopefully he’ll be matched up against Beckham, who delivered another stellar campaign with 1,450 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Brandon Gibson on Friday

“I know Ray and Brian want to get together,” Linta said. “Ray is very busy. I’m sure Ray will find the time between now and the start of free agency. Once those two get together we can move forward. Brian definitely knows how the coaching staff feels.”
When asked whether Hoyer wanted to come back, Linta noted only that Hoyer “is excited about the possibility of staying” in Cleveland.

Hoyer had a strong start to the 2014 season in leading the Browns to a 7-4 record, but really struggled down the stretch. He threw nine interceptions and completed less than 50 percent of his passes in his final five games as Cleveland finished with a losing record (7-9) for the seventh straight year.

Even with his solid numbers over the first few months, Hoyer finished the season among the league’s worst signal callers, and his stats were eerily similar to McCown’s. His passer rating (76.5) ranked just ahead of the former Bucs quarterback, while his completion percentage (55.3 percent) was slightly lower.

Whether McCown represents an upgrade over Hoyer is unclear, but what is certain is that the Browns once again are searching for a quarterback to lead the team in 2015.

The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Brandon Gibson on Friday, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. Gibson was owed almost $3.5 million in 2015, and though at one point he was considered an up-and-comer, he struggled last season.

Washington, the team that just signed defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois on Thursday, made a couple big cuts in that area on Friday. They released defensive linemen Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen on Friday, which saves them nearly $10 million in cap space for the 2015 season, according to John Keim of ESPN.

Bowen saved the team $5.5 million on his own. Both Cofield and Bowen have been effective at times, and at one point were anchoring what was considered a deeply talented defensive line. But injuries wrecked said line, and Washington is content to part ways with these two to make room for Jean-Francois, who should now step into a starting role.
