The Bosnian Beast has coughed it up on 20 percent of the possessions he has finished with a shot

It’s not happening right now for the other half of the (mostly) dead Jurkic pairing. With Kenneth Faried rejuvenated, Nurkic is hurting for playing time. Perhaps the main reason: his hideous turnover rate.

The Bosnian Beast has coughed it up on 20 percent of the possessions he has finished with a shot, drawn foul, or turnover — a gargantuan number for a big man. Only 10 guys 6-foot-10 or taller have ever tossed away so many possessions while hoarding as large a share of offense as Nurkic.

A lot of these gaffes are just careless. Nurkic is huge, and bowls over defenders in the post — putting him at high risk for charging calls. He has slippery hands. He loves flicking fancy one-handed passes to cutters, but he often misfires or hits their legs.

He also loves hitting people. Sometimes he backs into a post-up with such force, the collision jars the ball loose.

Nurkic should be an efficient player. He’s shooting 51 percent, he’s a good passer, and he can bulldoze to the rim almost whenever he wants. But coaches won’t trust him until he buttons up.

With the Steelers, offensive line coach Mike Munchak was among those yelling “hit it, hit it” from the press box in 2014 when the second-year back wouldn’t accept the first available hole. But largely, Bell has felt the team accepts who he is. Tomlin, who was the only NFL head coach at Bell’s pro day at MSU, never tried to change his thinking. Bell is rewarding that faith with a mushrooming arsenal of cuts and wait-for-its.

“He kind of understood it’s just the way I run the ball, and they kind of just let me do my things and evolve as a, I guess, unique runner,” Bell says.

2016 NFL Draft set for April 28-30

Limited Youth Patrick Roy Jersey
The 2016 NFL Draft will be held between April 28 and April 30, the NFL announced on Wednesday. The location of the draft has not yet been determined, which is going to be a big deal going forward given the changes made last year. Last year, the draft was held in Chicago, the first time the city had hosted the draft since 1964. New York City had been the host of the draft from 1965 to 2014.

NFL training camps for this coming season are set to get underway in late July, with the preseason set to begin on Aug. 9 with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. The regular season will officially get underway when the New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 10.

The next two seasons were even more productive for Redman. Then, 2013 happened. “I got hit in training camp,” he recalled. Players get hit all of the time. That’s part of football. This injury was different, though. “A tingle went down to my toes every time I bent my head down,” he shared. “I couldn’t run at full speed. I couldn’t turn my head without it hurting. I was trying to fight through the pain and injury, but I couldn’t perform.” He was also scared, a big problem for an NFL player. “There I was, an NFL running back afraid of getting hit,” he said.
Limited Youth Paul Martin Jersey
The Steelers put Redman on the inactive list for two weeks. “I kept complaining about my neck. I told them I needed to see a doctor.” One day in October, he checked in at the facility before a CAT scan he was finally able to schedule. Mike Tomlin caught up to him as the star running back was leaving for his appointment. “We’re going to release you. I tried fighting for you,” Tomlin said. Redman was stunned, even more so when he realized they were releasing him healthy instead of putting him on the injured reserve where he could have continued to receive a paycheck.

Matt Ryan is still on fire

Not much has changed in the two months since this story was published. Matt Ryan is still on fire. He is still the favorite to win MVP. He has still managed to retain the art of quarterbacking while letting go of the drag that has plagued him in previous years. He needs a win on Sunday against the Packers to change the perception of his career, but make no mistake: Win or lose, he has already changed the reality. — S.W.

Jordan Crawford Mens Jersey “I have no clue. We’re not where we want to be. That’s all I know,” Popovich said. “And no team is where they want to be. Maybe Golden State is. But the rest of us are trying to get there.”
JC Tretter Kids Jersey
The Spurs made that painfully apparent in the first half by giving up 71 points while committing 17 fouls, which sent the Timberwolves to the line for 30 foul shots. The Timberwolves converted 29 of those free throws, including 26-of-26 to start as they took a 71-67 lead into intermission on the strength of a 41-point second quarter.

Coming into the season, the Spurs had allowed only one 70-point first half during Popovich’s tenure as head coach (Jan. 4, 2011, at the New York Knicks). So far this season, the Spurs have surrendered two such first-half performances.

He also cut down on his turnovers with only nine, with seven interceptions — one in the red zone — and two lost fumbles. During a four-game winning streak to finish the regular season, Ryan threw 11 touchdowns with no interceptions. The most important number was 11, the number of wins Ryan helped the Falcons accumulate against five losses, a record that resulted in the NFC South title and a first-round playoff bye. Read the full vote.

Tom Brady threw two interceptions against the Texans

John Riggins Game Jersey Whoever the Patriots play next week — the Kansas City Chiefs or Pittsburgh Steelers — will be their toughest opponent since Week 7. If the Patriots win, they’ll face the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl LI.

Everything the Patriots have gone through to overcome Brady’s Deflategate suspension and cap his revenge tour comes down to next week and, ideally, a game two weeks later in Houston. Everything that has happened so far feels as if it was supposed to happen, and it has delivered them within two tough wins of a fifth Brady-Belichick Super Bowl title.

George Johnson Game Jersey With the Chiefs lined up for a two-point conversion to tie the game, the Steelers showed a resolve that drove them the past two months. James Harrison, doing the unthinkable at age 38 with a sack and many other pressures Sunday, beat Eric Fisher off the edge once again, drawing a holding penalty to negate a two-point score. Then, safety Sean Davis — the culprit on a helmet shot on receiver Chris Conley to keep a tired Steelers defense on the field — soared over the middle of the field to knock down an Alex Smith pass in the back of the end zone.

This was a grind-it-out win all the way, with Le’Veon Bell running wild for 170 yards and Harrison’s defense turning a hot Chiefs offense lukewarm.

The Steelers’ offense resided in scoring territory all night, reaching the red zone four times and the Chiefs’ 25-yard line or closer seven times thanks to a nearly 400-yard attack. It scored no touchdowns on those drives despite another dominant day from Bell. The Chiefs’ red zone defense was tremendous and the Steelers couldn’t beat it.

So the Steelers went pure survival mode, methodically moving downfield for 3s and letting the defense do the rest.

Roethlisberger said offensive coordinator Todd Haley asked him which play he liked, so the quarterback mentioned a crossing route they hadn’t run all game. Brown went behind linebacker Justin Houston and Roethlisberger put it on him.

Johnson could end up being the best NFL prospect on Penn State’s defense

Austin Johnson, DT (junior): Johnson could end up being the best NFL prospect on Penn State’s defense, with the potential to be a devastating nose tackle. He clocks in at 6’4, 323 pounds but moves like someone much smaller. His lateral agility is terrifying, which would certainly compensate for any deficiencies he has with raw power. The big question with Johnson is whether he’s just really good or if he’s really good because he lines up next to one of the best defensive linemen in America.

Jordan Lucas, S (senior): Like Zettel, Lucas is a versatile athlete who can play in just about any spot in his unit. Lucas — the first person to commit to the Nittany Lions after the NCAA’s sanctions against the school — got better at cornerback every year, to the point that he was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2014. He’s been the best player in a secondary that allowed the lowest completion percentage last year. Lucas decided to move to safety for his senior season, partly because this is where he projects to play at the next level.

Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown has quickly become the most valuable PPR asset for receivers. In fact, you could argue he will outscore any running back this season in PPR leagues. He’s also less likely to get hurt, so there’s a case to take him first overall in PPR. To nobody’s surprise, all seven of us have Brown as the No. 1 receiver, which is a testament to his sky-high ceiling and elite floor.

After Brown, none of us are in agreement on the top three, but Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr., Jordy Nelson and Calvin Johnson all seem to be somewhat close. Most of these guys have some injury concerns, especially Johnson. Megatron was basically everyone’s No. 1 receiver for drafts last year, but numerous injuries led to decreased production.

Jason Pierre-Paul still isn’t recovered from his fireworks accident from over the summer

The Packers probably took the biggest injury hit around the league this summer when they lost Jordy Nelson for the season with an ACL injury. But the man who’s expected to replace the majority of Nelson’s production, Randall Cobb, is battling health problems as well.

Cobb injured his shoulder during the Packers’ second preseason game, and just returned to practice Wednesday. There’s no definitive word on whether Cobb will suit up to take on the Bears in Week 1, but the fact that he’s practicing is a good sign.

If Cobb can’t go Sunday, second-year wideout Davante Adams would become the new number one receiver in his absence.

Jason Pierre-Paul (DE, Giants):

Jason Pierre-Paul still isn’t recovered from his fireworks accident from over the summer, which cost him a finger and will likely cost him his first few game checks this season as well.

“You know you’re going against the best and it’s a big opportunity because you want to be at your best and try to make a play against him,” cornerback A.J. Bouye said. “And at the end of the day it all comes down to winning and changing the game on defense and getting the ball in our offense’s hands.”

O’Brien knows how Brady prepares for games, and he is aware the four-time Super Bowl champion will have a good idea of what the Texans will present defensively.

“We’re not going to show him anything that he hasn’t already seen,” O’Brien said. “He’s been doing it for years, 17 years or whatever it is. I mean, that’s part of what makes him who he is. He’s seen it all. He’s very well-prepared. He’s played against a lot of these players. He’s played against this scheme.

DeMarcus Ware expected to be out 2 weeks with back injury

Kids Chris Doleman Jersey
Denver Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware left Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders with a back injury. He’s expected to miss two weeks with what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is calling a back strain.

Limited Mens Ronnie Lott Jersey The Broncos will play the Cleveland Browns in Week 6, but have a bye the following week, meaning Ware is likely to only miss one game. Rookie Shane Ray is listed as Ware’s primary backup on the depth chart.

He did.

That is Bradshaw in 2010, after Roethlisberger’s second sexual violence incident — a rape accusation in Georgia for which the quarterback received a six-game suspension that was later reduced to four games. Bradshaw addressed the following to Roethlisberger at the time:

“I’ve told everyone I wasn’t happy when the commissioner reduced your suspension from six games to four games. I wouldn’t have done that. I don’t know that you’ve proven to the NFL that you’re on the right path, but I hope so.

So to answer a lot of questions: When Roethlisberger was accused of sexual violence, Terry Bradshaw stood loudly on the same side he now occupies regarding Hardy: The right one. You can put aside this accusation of a double standard for one of the few people around the NFL using his pulpit to send a message the league needs to hear. The takeaway here should be how bleak it is that, years later, Bradshaw still has to upbraid organizations for keeping men like this around.

Tate wasn¡¯t seeing the ball much early, and his numbers showed it

¡°I feel like every time I think I have it, I come back and make a stupid mistake,¡± Tate said. ¡°A simple, silly, knucklehead mistake. That seems to happen all the time. It¡¯s like, ¡®I got it. I got it. I think I got it.¡¯ And I guess I become slightly complacent and then, ‘Boom.'”
Game Josh Robinson Jersey
The ¡°Boom¡± happens less frequently now and often in places most don¡¯t see — like in practice, when he¡¯s still running hard. If he makes the mistake there, then he¡¯s hoping to fix it by game time.

This season was even more of an adaptation. Tate wasn¡¯t seeing the ball much early, and his numbers showed it. That led to the well-known benching in Week 4 against Chicago. From there, he emerged as Matthew Stafford’s favored target. Tate stopped focusing on his numbers and his targets and, in turn, ended up producing more on the field.

That was an adaptation by Tate to just refocus himself. And the Lions’ offensive staff worked to feature him more.

When the Bills didn’t play quarterback Tyrod Taylor in their regular-season finale on Sunday against the New York Jets, it sent the message that the team does not intend to pick up the $15.5 million option bonus in his contract that they have until March 11 to decline or exercise.

Picking up the option would guarantee Taylor $30.75 million over the life of the contract, tying him to Buffalo for the next five seasons, and the Bills don’t have any intention of paying it.

Taylor’s core muscle surgery was performed this week with the Bills being aware of, and involved in the process to have it done, per league sources. This was not a surprise to the Bills. Taylor was diagnosed with a core muscle issue late in the season and played with it until Week 17. Bills doctors told Taylor that surgery was possible and they even recommended that he visit Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. Dr. Meyers determined there was no medical alternative; surgery was the only option. Taylor’s recovery is expected to be six to eight weeks, possibly longer.

Sharks place Marc-Edouard Vlasic on Injured Reserve

Game Derrick Shelby Jersey
Game Devan Dubnyk Jersey The Sharks put Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the Injured Reserve list today and recalled Mirco Mueller from the San Jose Barracuda, ruling out the veteran defender from play the rest of the week according to Acquaintance of the Blog Curtis Pashelka.

With Mueller being recalled, Vlasic placed on IR. Out for tomorrow’s game, and Thursday’s vs. Minnesota I believe.

The Lakers scored 31 points in the fourth quarter themselves, so Toronto needed that Lowry performance and ended up scoring 38 to push the lead out into a respectable margin. Los Angeles had their own red-hot shooters, but Lowry was too much. While the Raptors¡¯ losses have come in pairs a few times, Toronto hasn¡¯t lost three in a row all season. Lowry made sure that continued.

That¡¯s what a floor general and team leader does, after all. DeMar DeRozan scored 31 points on Sunday, and he¡¯s clearly one of the team¡¯s two best players and crucial to their success. But Lowry is both those things while becoming the team¡¯s emotional spirit. They ride or die with their 6-foot, 30-year-old point guard, who is just good at being good.

The Raptors¡¯ 23-10 record this season feels disingenuous. The eight-point loss to the Suns last Thursday is a strange one, but most of the team¡¯s defeats come with an explanation. They also lost competitive games to the Warriors twice already this year, twice to Cleveland by four points each, and once to the Clippers by an eight-point margin.

Todd Bowles, Mike Maccagnan returning to Jets for 2017

In 2015, Todd Bowles revived a moribund New York Jets franchise and guided it to its first 10-win season in five years. Speculation about his future was raised after a 5-11 campaign in 2016, but the Jets are sticking with Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan for one more year.

Jets just confirm Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan will be back in 2017.

Bowles engineered a remarkable turnaround last fall when he brought a Jets team that had finished 4-12 the previous season to the brink of the postseason. New York was 10-5 and one game from clinching a wild card berth before suffering an upset loss at the hands of division rival Buffalo and former head coach Rex Ryan.

The Browns may be less inclined to move down in the order, thanks to another first-round selection from the Philadelphia Eagles. Cleveland received Philadelphia’s 2017 first-round pick during a trade prior to the 2016 NFL Draft, and it eventually became a relatively valuable selection when the Eagles had a five-game losing streak in the latter half of the 2016 season.

Philadelphia finished the year with a win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17, ending the year with a 7-9 record and securing another pick in the top half of the first round for the Browns.

The Eagles do own the Minnesota Vikings’ first-round pick, though. Minnesota’s opponents finished the season with a combined 125-129-2 record, which is equal to the 126-130 record of Indianapolis Colts’ opponents, so the two teams will flip a coin for rights to the No. 14 pick.
