Rajon Rondo calls BS on Bulls saying benching was to ‘save him from himself’

Rajon Rondo has been benched five consecutive games by Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg, but with Jimmy Butler (illness) and Dwyane Wade (rest) out for Tuesday’s matchup with the Wizards, the enigmatic point guard was back on the court, serving as the sixth man.

Rondo, who calls his situation the most confusing of his career, said he was told by a staff member that the Bulls and Hoiberg were trying to save him from himself.

I thought it was one of their players because I was getting ready to shoot and in my peripheral you see a body right there and he is saying, ‘I am right here! I am right here! I got your stunt!’ Lee said after the game, via ESPN. Usually in basketball terminology, that is a switch or I am going to jump out, so I shot-faked and drove. I still should have shot the shot.

The NBA agreed with Lee and fined Wizards assistant coach Sidney Lowe $5,000 and the Wizards organization $15,000 for the incident.

Many Knicks players on the court saw what happened, and were just as upset as Lee. Center Kyle O’Quinn said, At any level, you can’t do that.

Carmelo Anthony added, They have six players on the court.

I think it’s something they [the NBA] need to take a look at, Lee said. Being a basketball player you play off of instincts, and if you hear somebody right there, that’s why I try to make the right play. But I still should have shot it.

The league heard Lee and took action.
