Lewis lies on the edge of a cauldron of ocean activity with most of the Western Isles capturing vast chunks of swell that slam into them from the North Atlantic.
The continental shelf here is much closer to the shore than elsewhere in Britain and this far north gives longer daylight hours during summer, enabling you to surf almost until midnight on midsummer days.
With numerous surf breaks on all sides of the islands, offshore winds can be found most days, grooming a variety of locations from beginner beach breaks to world class reefs.
