76ers’ Joel Embiid to undergo knee surgery

76ers big man Joel Embiid will undergo surgery to repair a previously identified meniscus tear in his left knee, the team announced Wednesday.

Embiid, who missed his first two NBA seasons due to foot injuries, will miss the rest of this season but is expected to be fully healed for the 2017-18 season when he and No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons (foot) are expected to finally take the court together.

The same guy will be putting on the No. 9 jersey for the Wizards coming out of the All-Star break, but he’ll have a different name on the back of it 鈥?and on his driver’s license. The 24-year-old used his time off to complete the lengthy process of legally changing his name to the moniker everyone always used for him anyway.

Limited Mens Justin Hardy Jersey That’s just what people know me as. They just call me Mac. No one calls me Sheldon, really. Not the basketball people I know, Mac said, via The Washington Post. My little brother calls me Mac. My teammates call me Mac. My old teammates call me Mac.

Part of his reasoning also stemmed from the fact that McClellan is his father’s name, and Mac has no relationship with him at all.

He said his mother, Angel Johnson, and the rest of the family were on board with the change.

The West has been so dominant at the top the past few years. You have the Warriors, Spurs and now with how James Harden has been playing, the Rockets. You’ve had your solid core for a few years. How do you guys view the championship window with all that competition in the conference?

Michael Jordan upgrades his private jet

Of course Michael Jordan has a private jet.

The greatest basketball player ever and majority owner of the Hornets, is far, far too important to fly among us commoners, even y’all big baller, shot callers, who travel first class. The man has places to be, people to see and billions of dollars in revenue to generate.

Jordan wasn’t just any basketball player (See his six championships and six Finals MVPs in six appearances). So, he can’t fly just any private jet. MJ recently got his Beyonce and Jay Z on and upgraded his PJ, wrapping his G550 in the elephant print design that has made many of his Air Jordan sneakers so popular.

Such an extension’s parameters weren’t exactly known yet due to differing reports on what exactly the salary cap will be, but it can be estimated that Cousins would have received something along the lines of $220 to $230 million over the next six years (the one year remaining on his deal, followed by the extension) had he signed the deal. It’s a lot of money for a player that has been a part of the issues in Sacramento due to his erratic behavior on the floor.

Overall, while the team’s reticence to tie up that much money in such a mercurial player make some sense, it’s hard to buy that this deal is going to turn into a better outcome than signing Cousins to that contract. There’s just not enough upside.

The clear idea here is to shift the culture of the organization. In terms of that, the team has done its job. Hield is one of the highest character prospects you’ll find around the league, a genuine force of nature that will not only lead by example in terms of hard work, but also be a terrific public face for the organization as an ambassador to the fans. It wasn’t exactly a secret around the league that the Kings coveted Hield in the 2016 NBA Draft. They think highly of him.saints_017-223x223

Yankees starter Michael Pineda reportedly might need Tommy John surgery

Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey
Yankees fans just got potentially terrible news. Michael Pineda might be out for the year.

According to MLB.com, Pineda has a partial tear of his UCL that could require Tommy John surgery.

Now with the opportunity to go anywhere he’s wanted, Kung-Fu Panda and the franchise that made him a a three-time World Series champion reportedly have mutual interest.

According to FanRag Sports, people close to Sandoval say he would 鈥榣ove’ to go back to the Giants and some Giants people have spoken behind the scenes about the possibility, and they suggest it could be a consideration.

Current Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez, who is slashing .297/.321/.413 and recently activated from the DL, is expected to be moved by the deadline as San Francisco boasts the second-worst record in baseball.

Brian Roberts Jersey So do the Giants give a young player a chance to claim the role or bring back a former fan favorite at a bargain deal once he clears waivers? The latter doesn’t seem like a bad idea at this point. The Giants have nothing to lose and maybe familiar surroundings could remind Sandoval and all of us of what he’s capable.

Something else to keep in mind. Lackey’s a free agent after the season, and if he’s not part of the playoff equation 鈥?he’s probably behind fifth-starter options Eddie Butler and Mike Montgomery, too 鈥?maybe the Cubs try to trade him and get something for beyond 2017. It won’t be much, but anything is more than they’d get when he walks as a free agent (assuming a qualifying offer isn’t remotely likely).

McCoy and Joseph have seen steady progress from Lynch

Limited Mens Adam Oates Jersey Why it makes sense: With the NHL becoming the first major pro sports league to set up shop in Sin City and the Raiders on the way, it would be less awkward for baseball to make peace with having a team in the gambling capital of the nation. The non-coastal West remains underrepresented in the majors, and Las Vegas remains the most popular city named when players are asked where they’d like to see an expansion team. There is money to be made not only from locals with interest in a new team, but a heavy flow of tourists as well – something not captured at far-flung Cashman Field for minor league games.

Why it might not happen: It’s still Vegas and baseball, which maybe isn’t like oil and water, but is uncomfortable for many. More importantly, the population boom of the turn of the century has slowed down significantly, and there’s the issue of where a team would play.

McCoy and Joseph have seen steady progress from Lynch, and at some point, he can match Siemian’s current floor on the way to finding his ceiling. Lynch was trying to be too much like Siemian last year, and he couldn’t compare or compete. This year, he’s in position to let it loose with his throwing and running, with the mental aspect being less of an obstacle.

That’s the difference between the Kubiak-Dennison precision passing system and McCoy. The new coordinator is better at adjusting his offense to the talents of his QB and thinking outside the box. He’s much more comfortable with freewheeling, which fits Lynch to a tee.

Limited Mens Charles Mann Jersey Consider when McCoy was with the Broncos last, from 2009-12, he had successful seasons working with Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning. In terms of pure physical talent and youth, Lynch provides him with the best blend of QB skills yet.

Mark Schlereth says it’s a good thing Tim Tebow is now playing minor league baseball instead of football.

After announcing he was leaving ESPN this week, the former NFL lineman made his first appearance on The Herd With Colin Cowherd Wednesday while Jason Whitlock was filling in as host.

It’s going to feel good for him. It’s going to be a good feeling, It’s going to be a good feeling for Oakland. But when we come here, we’re going to beat the dog s— out of him.

The best part is this quote came from the 11th annual Fam 1st Foundation Football Camp, which was hosted by Lynch in Oakland over the weekend. Even during a fun event for kids, the rivalry between the Chiefs and Raiders is strong.

To the original point, though, Peters said it’s dope Lynch gets to finish his career in Oakland, where he grew up. Coming from Oakland carries a certain amount of pride, and the fact the team is leaving in a few years for Las Vegas makes this even more special. Oakland residents have responded as Lynch had the top-selling jersey on NFL Shop in May.
Elite Mens Andre Johnson Jersey
As for the rivalry, the Raiders’ success in recent years have made them a prime target for extra shots. The Broncos have their own beef with the Raiders, and the Chiefs’ professional hatred has grown as both teams have started piling up wins.

Look for the Chiefs and Raiders to really go at it on Oct. 19 as they face each other on Thursday Night Football.

Lue had hinted during the season that the Cavs were holding back their best PNR defense

About those defensive struggles … The big question for the Cavs all year, especially in the second half of the season, has been their inability to play consistent defense, particularly in the pick-and-roll. That appeared to be an Achilles heel heading into the playoffs.

But the Cavaliers just suffocated the most pick-and-roll heavy team in the league. Coach Ty Lue had his defense blitzing the play aggressively, taking Toronto out of its comfort zone. J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert have looked as healthy as they’ve been in a while, and James’ ability to read and cut off the pick-and-roll was a factor in forcing Toronto into poor shots.

Lue had hinted during the season that the Cavs were holding back their best PNR defense, and the way Cleveland handled Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan indicates he was right. The Cavaliers allowed Toronto 0.90 points per possession and 44.4 percent shooting on ballhandler pick-and-rolls against the Raptors, which would put them right in the middle of the pack in postseason rankings. (Against the roll man, they allowed 1.03 points per possession and 48.6 percent shooting, also middle of the pack.) The Cavaliers don’t need to be top-tier against the play, they just need to be decent. And they were.

What they won’t do: Bring back this same group. Doing so would vault them at least $30 million over the luxury tax, for a total bill of something like $250 million. You don’t pay that for a noncontender.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe spoke with the team’s general manager, Masai Ujiri, after Sunday’s loss and came away believing the Raptors won’t be able to retain everyone on the roster. There’s just not enough money to go around to keep stars Lowry and Serge Ibaka along with key contributors such as PJ Tucker and Patrick Patterson.

Charles Barkley blasts ‘idiots who use analytics’ in rant about NBA player rest

The player rest argument has subsided for the most part now that the NBA playoffs are in full swing, but Charles Barkley is still talking about it. Appearing Monday morning on ESPN’s Mike & Mike the basketball analyst started talking about player rest after complimenting Russell Westbrook.

De’Anthony Thomas Mens Jersey Whether there are a lot of options (elsewhere in the league) or not, I’m in a very good situation. As a player, you can decide what you want to do. And I have a lot of money to decide if I want to take it or not. It’s not a bad thing because I worked my butt off for it over my career, so no rush in my mind. I’ve got at least a month before my mind starts going there. I’m just going to get away and let my hair grow a little bit, get a tan.”

Junior Galette Mens Jersey Wade’s decision must come before the July 1 start of NBA free agency and its not out of the question he returns to Miami, which tied the Bulls at 41-41 for the eighth and final playoff seed in the East despite a terrible start to the season. The Heat could have nearly $37 million in cap space available this offseason.

I only played in one organization my entire career, but the biggest thing is I came here and I was embraced. not only by the city, by up top, Wade said of the Bulls. I was embraced by the coaches, the players, and it was some good moments and some bad moments, just like every season. But I don’t regret my decision at all.

Here’s why LaVar Ball was so upset with Kristine Leahy

LaVar Ball has apparently been holding a grudge against The Herd co-host Kristine Leahy for at least a month.

During an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Wednesday, Ball’s obvious disdain toward Leahy was evident from his first interaction with her, telling Leahy to stay in her lane.

Game Kids Donald Penn Jersey When Leahy asked Ball what his problem was with her, Ball referred to a time when she said she would never wear Big Baller Brand apparel.

Isaiah Thomas, Boston’s diminutive All-Star point guard, played pickup basketball with Markelle Fultz last summer at the University of Washington and he recently said Fultz will be the No. 1 pick, for sure, according to Mass Live. Could the two point guards share the court not only in pickup games during the offseason but on an NBA court as teammates?

While it’s easier said than done, and requires Brooklyn’s league-worst record to pay off for Boston on lottery night, both players are optimistic to the possibility of playing together on the Celtics.

19.9 percent odds of No. 1 pick — The Suns addressed their frontcourt needs in last year’s NBA draft when they selected forward Dragan Bender and made a draft day trade for Marquese Chriss. Josh Jackson would immediately help Phoenix on the wing, where he would play alongside leading scorer Devin Booker and a trio of point guards from Kentucky — Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight and Tyler Ulis — who remain under contract next season.

Quintin Demps was signed as the presumptive leader in his 10th NFL season

The delayed opening of the Rams’ new stadium from 2019 to 2020 was key in the NFL’s decision to push back. The Rams are set to be the home team for a game in China, and have to give up a home game for an international one in 2019.

According to Sports Business Daily, the numerous moving parts surrounding the NFL’s multiple international games also contributed in the decision to wait another year. The NFL has five international games this upcoming season, with four in London and one in Mexico City.
Authentic Youth James White Jersey
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell first spoke about the possibility of a game in China during the owners meeting last March.

Authentic Youth DeMario Davis Jersey The size and the influence of China in the global marketplace is obviously something that you can’t ignore, Goodell said. You can’t ignore that as a sport, or a business, or as a nation. We know we have lots of fans over there, and more importantly, potential fans over there.

Goodell added that multiple teams were interested in playing globally, but China was a bigger interest.

Quintin Demps was signed as the presumptive leader in his 10th NFL season, and he’ll slide in at strong safety. Amos returns at free, but fourth-round pick Eddie Jackson has a chance to steal that position. Deiondre’ Hall is moving to safety to provide further depth alongside fellow youngsters Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson.

The Bears have three solid corners at the top of their depth chart in free-agency acquisition Prince Amukamara, Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan. But depth behind them — Sherrick McManis, Johnthan Banks, Marcus Cooper, B.W. Webb, Cre’Von LeBlanc — might be an issue.

JJ Redick agrees to one-year deal with 76ers

The 76ers have added a much-needed veteran presence to what will likely be one fo the youngest starting lineups in the NBA next season.

After trading up to take University of Washington product one-and-done point guard Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft, Philadelphia has come to terms with 11th-year sharpshooter JJ Redick to fill out their backcourt. The tandem cold accompany a frontline that will may consist of last year’s top pick Ben Simmons, who’s yet to turn 21, and 2016-17 Rookie of the Year candidates 23-year-olds Dario Saric and Joel Embiid.

Of course, there’s a good chance Thomas was aware of his new teammate’s reported decision before the rest of the NBA world did. Still an impressive reaction time to Haynes’ tweet.

The Celtics, Heat and Jazz reportedly coveted Hayward before Boston apparently made a strong enough impression to take one of the biggest 2017 free agents off the market. Which is why newly-acquired Utah guard Ricky Rubio’s reaction to Hayward’s decision not to re-sign with the Jazz was, well, the opposite of Thomas’ reaction.

The only beam of hope for Rubio and the Jazz: Hayward’s agent told ESPN a decision had not yet been made despite Haynes’ report.

Thomas, 28, is entering the final season of his four-year contract with the Celtics. Terms of Hayward’s reported deal were not immediately known.

Hayward, drafted by Utah in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft, averaged 15.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in seven seasons with the Jazz.
